Central Coast Concrete Revival arranges resurfacing for driveways, garage floors and outdoor concrete across Kariong, the large planned suburb positioned at the southern gateway to the Central Coast, where considerable amounts of original 1980s and 90s estate concrete are reaching the natural renewal point. Guide pricing follows the ranges published across the site: roughly $2,500 to $8,000+ for driveways and $35 to $120 per square metre for epoxy floors, confirmed only after a site inspection and formal written quote.

Kariong is one of the Central Coast’s more deliberately planned suburbs: it developed from the mid-1970s through the 1990s as a master-planned community, which means the housing stock has a certain generational coherence. A large share of Kariong homes were built between 1978 and 1995, which means their original concrete is now 30 to 45 years old. That’s the age at which properly installed concrete starts showing meaningful wear if it has not been maintained, and the age at which resurfacing frequently makes more sense than replacement.

Kariong’s concrete: what three decades looks like

A Kariong driveway from the mid-1980s has typically had one owner, maybe two, and has never been resealed since the original pour. In that time, it has experienced a moderate amount of vehicle oil staining, some surface erosion from rain and foot traffic, and probably fine cracking along the expansion joints. The surface that was once a clean broom finish is now greyish, slightly rough to walk on in places, and has a couple of dark patches under where the car parks.

This is a very restorable starting point. The slab beneath is usually still sound and level. Grinding back the degraded surface layer, treating oil staining, recolouring and applying a proper sealer results in a surface that looks far better than the original while preserving the capital already invested in the slab.

What’s different here compared to the beachside suburbs? Kariong is far enough inland that salt air isn’t the primary accelerator of concrete wear. The main factors are UV exposure (significant anywhere on the Central Coast), vehicular load on driveways, and the modest seasonal moisture cycling of a sheltered inland suburb. This makes Kariong’s concrete, on average, in better condition for its age than a comparable Terrigal or Wamberal driveway, and gives resurfaced surfaces better longevity between maintenance intervals.

Services most in demand in Kariong

  • Driveway resurfacing: the primary enquiry type in Kariong’s 1980s-90s residential streets.
  • Spray-on concrete: for newer homes whose plain grey driveways owners want to upgrade decoratively.
  • Epoxy garage floors: Kariong’s original double-garage homes are excellent candidates: large, flat, original slabs that benefit greatly from a coated surface. See our epoxy garage floors in Kariong guide for suburb-specific pricing and what a quote checks first.
  • Concrete grinding and sealing: for slabs in sound condition needing a sealer refresh rather than a full resurface.
  • Pool surround resurfacing: many of Kariong’s original family blocks have a backyard pool, and original 1980s-90s surrounds are due for the same renewal as the driveway; see our pool surround resurfacing in Kariong guide for specifics.

Is my Kariong driveway worth resurfacing?

The question comes down to whether the slab is structurally sound or has movement issues. A slab with oil staining, surface erosion, colour loss and expansion-joint cracking (in-plane, not stepped) is restorable. A slab with sections that have sunk or lifted, structural cracking, or areas where the concrete has crumbled through rather than just worn, needs a closer look at inspection before a resurfacing quote is appropriate. Our guide on resurfacing versus replacing concrete explains how that judgement is made.

Kariong FAQs

Q: My 1983 brick home has the original driveway and it’s never been sealed. What can I expect? A: A 40-year-old unsealed driveway in inland Central Coast conditions will typically be grey, surface-eroded, with oil staining under the car and expansion-joint cracking. All of those are restorable. The inspection confirms slab suitability and produces a specific scope; the typical result for a driveway like this is a resurfaced surface that bears no resemblance to what it looked like before.

Q: The garage floor is my priority. What’s involved in an epoxy floor for a double garage? A: The process is: diamond grinding to open the surface and remove any oil or staining, a moisture check to confirm the slab suits the selected system, any crack or spall repair, primer coat, colour coat (solid or flake), and clear topcoat sealer. The garage is usually completed in one to two days, and you’d wait 24 to 48 hours before driving on it.

Q: We’re thinking of selling and want the concrete to look good. Is resurfacing worth it before a sale? A: A freshly resurfaced driveway and a coated garage floor both improve the presentation of a property noticeably, often more than their cost. Our pre-sale concrete resurfacing service is designed specifically for this scenario, with scheduling and finishes appropriate for vendor preparation.
