Both processes are sensitive to the amount of moisture already present in the air and in the substrate. High ambient humidity does two things: it slows surface evaporation from the applied product (which is sometimes acceptable) and it can introduce moisture into the curing film itself (which is not).
For epoxy systems specifically, high humidity during application causes amine blush: a waxy, cloudy surface haze that forms as moisture interferes with the curing reaction. Spring (September to November): Temperatures are rising but have not yet hit summer peaks. Humidity is moderate. Rain events are less frequent and generally shorter than summer storms. Autumn (March to May): Temperatures are cooling from summer peaks, humidity begins to ease, and the summer-storm pattern ends. By late March, conditions are generally stable enough for safe applications. May is often ideal: mild temperatures, lower humidity, and typically settled weather. The trade-off is that autumn is also popular with contractors, so lead times can be longer.
Summer (December to February): High risk. Not impossible, but jobs scheduled in summer need to be managed around the daily forecast. Early morning starts and finishing before midday reduce exposure to afternoon humidity and storm risk. This is possible but requires flexibility from both contractor and homeowner.
